Establishment of the Syrian-Scandinavian Medical Association
Foundation and History
In February 2025, the Syrian Scandinavian Medical
Association (SSMO) was established in Gothenburg, Kingdom
of Sweden, as a non-profit humanitarian and scientific organization, officially
registered under Swedish law and committed to international humanitarian
principles. The association was founded in response to the urgent need to
enhance medical and scientific collaboration between Syrian healthcare
professionals in Scandinavia and their counterparts in Syria, with the aim of
supporting and developing the Syrian healthcare sector amid its significant
challenges.
The SSMO was
built on the values of humanitarian solidarity, professional excellence, and
neutrality, free from any political or commercial affiliations. It serves as a
bridge connecting Syrian medical expertise in the diaspora with their homeland,
facilitating the transfer of medical knowledge and modern technologies to
Syria.
Vision and
Objectives
1. Promote
scientific exchange between
Syrian doctors and researchers in Scandinavia and Syria through workshops,
conferences, and training programs.

Support the Syrian healthcare sector by providing medical equipment,
medications, and humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable regions.

Build a strong professional network of Syrian medical professionals
abroad to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Advocate for the rights of healthcare

work to improve their working conditions both in Syria and abroad.

The SSMO is
headquartered in Gothenburg,
Sweden, and its membership includes Syrian physicians,
pharmacists, nurses, and researchers based in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway,
Denmark, Finland, Iceland). The association relies on volunteer work and
donations, ensuring full transparency in resource management in accordance with
international standards.
